The Lopez Farm Tour is a unique opportunity to visit farms on the island!
Lopez Farm Tour events are scheduled at specific times, you will need to pick-up a map with detailed tour information, times and directions, after on-line purchase or purchase at the LIFE Program (86 School Road) on Saturday and at Barn Owl Bakery at Mighnights Farm (3012 Center Road) Sunday morning or during the event on participating farms.
Farm Tour Tickets: $15 per day. Families $25 per day (2-4 people). Children under 12 free.
Lunch, evening event, and products available on farms are additional fees.
Saturday, October 8th events:
Start the Farm Tour with a local, hearty farm breakfast. Learn about the nationally acclaimed Lopez Island Farm Education (LIFE) program with gardens and hoophouses that produce vegetables for the school lunches, involving students of all ages in farm and garden education and activities. Breakfast: $10 pp. Donations help fund the LIFE Program. 9:00-10:30am.
Learn about tricks of the trade for field and greenhouse-grown salad greens for local
restaurants and grocery stores, including season extension using movable greenhouses at Lopez Harvest.
Help us move the greenhouse during this workshop! 11:00-12:30.
S & S Homestead Farm: Tour a 55-acre biodynamic farm that integrates plant and animal production, learn about the economics of small-scale farming in the San Juans, visit the gardens, dairy and cheese
facility. Lunch: Wood-fired fermented gluten-safe pizza lunch made from products grown on the
farm – $15 Pre-registration required (max 15 people). 1:00-2:20
Lopez Island Shellfish Farm & Hatchery: Visit the Jones Family shellfish farm to learn about the intricacies of clam & oyster production from spawn to mature clams & oysters, enjoy a tour of the facilities, and a tasting of their delicious shellfish products. Lunch: $10 – Fresh clam chowder, local bread and salad.

Come take a walk around Horse Drawn Farm to learn about the use of draft horses for
vegetable and grain production, the breeding and raising of pastured pigs, grazing
management of grass fed lamb and beef, and much more at this diverse, highly integrated
commerical farm. Farm products available for sale. 3:00-4:30
Join Lopez community members, farmers, farm tour attendees and guests for a fabulous
dinner at the Lopez Grange featuring products grown on our Lopez Island Farms.
Enter your favorite homemade pie in the Second Annual Lopez Fall Pie Contest, to be
judged by local experts. Buy a slice of pie to support local food initiatives.

Sunday, October 9th events:
Start Sunday with wood-fired pastries from Barn Owl Bakery followed by a discussion of the Lopez Grain Project to understand the many uses of local grain and why this is so important
for our local farms and businesses. Sample shortbread cookies made from flour of different
grains. Purchase small bags of different flours to try at home. Discussion led by Nathan
Hodges, Barn Owl Bakery, and Dr. Brook Brouwer, Director WSU SJC Extension. Mightnights Farm. 9:00-10:30
Visit Lucky Ewe Farm to learn about raising different breeds of sheep for fleece and meat
production. Watch their border collie follow Audrey’s instructions to herd the sheep across
the field and into a pen. 11:00-12:30
Visit Helen’s Farm to learn about vegetable and chicken production, visit the certified
processing facility and understand some of the challenges and hurdles facing small farmers.

Visit Island Fibers to learn about how Lopez Island fleeces are transformed into beautiful
yarn, clothing, woven rugs and blankets. Learn about fleece evaluation, carding, spinning,

Sunnyfield Farm: visit the historic farm with a family run licensed goat dairy producing farmstead cheese, yogurt, and raw milk. Meet the goats, tour the dairy facilities, and taste the delicious

Learn the basics of fermenting vegetables with Josh Ratza from Kraut Pleasers using age-old
